About Me

A lifelong love of horses. A journey of healing. A passion for helping others.

Why the name Healing Spirit?

The first horse I personally owned was given the name Spirit, a choice inspired by both her spirited nature and the way she continually lifted my spirits. Consequently, the name Healing Spirit serves as a heartfelt tribute not only to her but also to all the horses that graciously contribute to our healing.

My love for horses began at a very young age, the moment my dad first lifted me onto the back of a horse. What began as a childhood love grew into something much deeper. During my tumultuous teenage years, my horse became my safe place, a source of comfort and stability that helped me survive those difficult years.

The Equine Coaching Session That Started It All!

Later in life, I experienced an equine coaching session for myself, and it was then that I knew I had found what I wanted to do: create powerful and meaningful experiences with horses for others.

My session started by observing the herd. I found myself being drawn to a horse named Sonny. As I watched him, I sensed his need to feel safe and secure.

My theory was soon tested as I was given the assignment to approach him, so off I marched in my "take charge" way. As I moved closer, he became increasingly uncertain and began to back away. I realized that to reach him, I needed to create a sense of security.

As I opened myself up, focused solely on him and projected a sense of safety, I was able to move closer. When he hesitated, I gave him the space he needed, patiently waiting for him to respond. Once I sensed he was ready and had given his consent, I gently clipped on the lead rope and proudly led him back to my facilitator.

My connection to that horse at that moment was very intense. Afterwards, I felt many things: happiness, empowerment, and elation that I succeeded!

Through this experience, I was able to reconnect to a part of me that I had shut down: my ability to connect to others and to use my intuition. I was also reminded to stop and notice the needs of others. Taking this awareness back to my family, I became more emotionally available to them and more attentive to their needs.

Turning My Passion Into Purpose

I felt so strongly that this was my path that I began my certification journey before I even owned a horse. Thankfully, I found a place to volunteer that allowed me to complete my practice sessions at their facility.

I successfully completed a nine-month training program and received my certification from Roots Institute at One Horse Wild in 2017 and then in 2023 continued my training with the Academy for Coaching by completing Equine Facilitated Learning and Coaching Levels 1 and 2.

In addition to my professional training, I bring the wisdom and insight gained from over 40 years of my own personal healing journey, along with an intuitive ability to read and connect with both horses and people.

Each horse has a different personality and brings something unique to the coaching session.  I am always amazed at what feedback they provide. Once, my horse just laid down for the entire session, something he rarely did.  The takeaway for the participant was that she needed to slow down and pay attention to the needs of her body.

Another time, I had a group of 25.  As participants began to arrive and the energy started building, the horses began to run around their stalls.  Once the group completed a guided meditation and their energy calmed, the horses calmed as well.  The horses mirrored the energy of the group.

Horses are masters at reading our energy and giving us feedback if we are open to seeing and experiencing what they have to offer.
