When I spend time with my horses, one of the things I enjoy doing is just being in their presence with no agenda. As I sit in one of the pens, I just breathe in their peaceful, serene nature. Most of the time, they stand quietly, swishing their tails, or maybe they come over to investigate or just stand next to me. They remind me to be fully present by tuning into my senses. As I slow down and truly engage my senses, I discover a whole new level of awareness—and a whole new way to enjoy the moment. I notice a dove that flies overhead. The wind blows across my face. I hear the movement of the horses and the chirping of the birds. A dog barks in the distance. Internally, I have slowed down, and I notice more. My heart feels full as I gaze at these beautiful, remarkable beings. I am filled with gratitude and awe that they have come into my life and continue to enrich it in ways I never could have imagined.
